Vietnam Golf Association taps 54 for development of national golf strategy

The Vietnam Golf Association has inked a partnership with global sports and entertainment consultancy 54 to co-develop a comprehensive national golf strategy.

Golf has grown rapidly in Vietnam in recent years, with a new national golf strategy designed to sustain this momentum and further expand the sport.

Data from the Vietnam Golf Association shows that the country has recorded one of the sharpest increases in registered golfers globally, with numbers rising by 279% in 2025 compared with 2023. This growth is mirrored in course development – Vietnam now has more than 90 operational 18-hole golf courses, with the total expected to reach 200 by 2030.

International golfers are also a key driver of demand. According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), golf tourism generated $600 million in revenue in 2022 and is projected to exceed $1 billion by 2025, accounting for around 8% to 10% of the country’s total tourism revenue.

“In order to maximize the potential and build efficiencies for Vietnam’s booming golf industry, leading stakeholders have taken effective measures to diversify the national product offering and cater to the widespread demand from both international and domestic tourists,” said Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Vice President of the Vietnam Golf Association.

“This has given tremendous impetus for future developments, and the time is now for us to harness this momentum and take things to the next level.”

National golf strategy

At the centre of the future ambition is the national golf strategy, which will be developed in conjunction with 54. Nguyen: “Our partnership with 54 has charted a course that will take the sport and industry to the next level.”

“Vietnam is on an unmatched trajectory in terms of growing domestic participation, inbound visitation and new golf course developments,” said Jed Moore, Group CEO 54. “The Vietnam Golf Association has been one of the long-standing drivers in supporting the industry, and the game’s growth.”

“At 54, we are joining forces to supercharge this movement and get behind a new national strategy that will ensure the most efficient and impactful roll out of a national plan, covering social, economic and environmental factors. As the golf industry increasingly sets its sights on Vietnam, the scale of the mid-term market potential is irrefutable.”

A major part of the national plan is to introduce new innovative strategies that differentiate the ‘Vietnam experience’ through enhancements to courses, infrastructure, landscape, but also quality standards and controls.

Moore continued: “The immediate priority is for 54 to begin work on setting out a framework to maximise golf’s value across Vietnam. This will include work with educational institutions to grow grassroots participation and build a skilled workforce, leveraging technology to engage new audiences, and supporting elite player development.

“The strategy will also introduce accessible entry-level golf experiences in urban and municipal settings, establish a national sustainability blueprint to guide best practices, and deliver training programs to accelerate implementation. Additionally, 54 will optimise sales channels to connect with tourism stakeholders and unify the industry under a shared ‘Golf in Vietnam’ vision.”

UK-headquartered 54 is a global sports and entertainment consultancy with offices in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania and North America. In Vietnam, the firm also works with the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) and the Sports Authority of Vietnam (SAV).
