Marsh McLennan names HyungKoo Lee as CEO of Mercer in Korea
The Korean wing of global professional services firm Marsh McLennan has appointed HyungKoo Lee as the CEO of its Mercer business.
HyungKoo Lee currently is the Country Corporate Officer for Marsh McLennan in Korea, and the CEO of Marsh. Retaining both roles, he now adds the remit of Mercer CEO. In the newly created role, Lee will oversee all of Mercer’s operations in the country, and drive greater collaboration between Mercer and Marsh, in a move that aligns with a global drive at the $17 billion company Marsh McLennan.
Mercer is a consulting firm specialised in human resources and people management. Marsh specialises in risk advisory and insurance consulting services, and also acts as an insurance broker.
“As the challenges confronting our clients are increasingly interrelated and more complex, we see an opportunity to collaborate more closely across Marsh McLennan’s businesses to make a bigger impact for clients,” said Renée McGowan, President – Asia, Middle East & Africa at Mercer.
Lee becomes the first example of a unified CEO role across Marsh and Mercer in Asia, following similar moves in Europe over the past months, with more similar appointments expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
David Jacob, Chief Executive Officer of Marsh in Asia, said, “HyungKoo’s appointment as the CEO of Marsh and Mercer presents great synergy to bring together the breadth of resources, talent and expertise from across our enterprises to serve our clients in the areas of risk, people and strategy, strengthening our position as market leaders in insurance broking, risk advisory and consulting services.”
Lee has been with Marsh McLennan since 1992, gaining experience in a variety of leadership roles in both Korea and the United States. In 2003, he was appointed Managing Director of Marsh and subsequently took on the role of CEO, Marsh Korea in 2018. He is based in the firm’s Seoul office.
Globally, Mercer is led by Willis Towers Watson veteran Martine Ferland, who oversees a team of 25,000 employees working from offices in 40+ countries.
