With its head office in Hong Kong and locations in Singapore, China, Japan, Korea Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan among its 20 international outlets, Tricor Group bills itself as Asia’s leading partner for integrated business solutions – providing clients with a wide range of business, corporate and investor services, from advisory to accounting to risk & compliance and corporate governance.
Founded at the turn of the century, Tricor now boasts a 30,000-strong international and local client-base – including more than 1,700 Asian-listed companies – and a headcount in excess of 2,000 professionals. Joining them in Hong Kong; Bobby Ying, newly appointed as the firm’s Head of Insurance & Wealth Solutions; long-term former EY employee Judy Wong as Group General Counsel, and; Pamela Chung, Managing Director, Commercial of Hong Kong.
Bobby Ying
Bobby Ying crosses to Tricor from insurer MetLife, where he served for nearly four years as Head of Partnership Distribution, with business tripling in size during his tenure – a period which partially coincided with Tricor Group CEO Lennard Yong’s term as CEO for MetLife in Hong Kong. Altogether Ying has amassed over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector specialising in high net worth distribution strategies and insurance product development.
At Tricor, Ying will be tasked with developing the firm’s insurance and wealth management solutions in Hong Kong and Singapore. “Anticipating risk is essential to all successful businesses. At Tricor, we understand enterprises wish to maximise their efficiency by identifying where risk should be retained or transferred,” said Tricor Deputy CEO of Hong Kong and long-tern former PwC Senior Manager Joe Wan, who also served with MetLife in Hong Kong.
Wan continued: “It’s with this in mind, together with our partners, we decided to offer new insurance and wealth management services to better serve the needs of our clients. As a well-respected insurance industry veteran, Bobby’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to building this business and helping our clients manage risk with insurance and wealth management partnerships.”
Judy Wong
Based out of Hong Kong, legal veteran Judy Wong joins the firm as Group General Counsel, responsible for managing risk and compliance for Tricor and the Group’s overall legal affairs. Wong crosses after nearly eight years with Ernst & Young, where she most recently served as Deputy General Counsel and led the firm’s corporate and commercial division for internal legal affairs in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.
Lennard Yong said: “We operate in 39 cities across 20 countries and territories across the world, and each of these markets represents a unique and complex regulatory environment. Our Group General Counsel will play a central role as we continue to look for new growth opportunities in Asia. I’m pleased to welcome Judy to the team. Her robust legal experience and expertise will ensure that we maintain the highest standards of legal and ethical behavior in every market we operate in.”
With an appetite for further growth – such that the firm recently welcomed ex-Deloitte partner Chloe Chan as its new group M&A Director, with Yong describing acquisitions as a crucial part of the firm’s long-term business strategy – the firm states that Wong’s nearly three decades of legal expertise will better enable it to navigate complex regulatory environments and ensure full adherence to local regulations, with Wong to be a key contact point for the various government bodies and jurisdictions involved.
Pamela Chung
A respected operator in Hong Kong’s IPO domain, with over 25 years of experience in IPO execution and capital market transactions, Pamela Chung joins Tricor as Managing Director, Commercial of Hong Kong – chosen to lead the development of Tricor’s listed company services and strengthen its relationship with capital market advisors. Chung has spent the past 25 years with Australian financial services firm Computershare, responsible for overseeing its Hong Kong IPO practice.
“From my association with the Hong Kong securities industry, I have known of Pamela’s reputation as a talented advisor in the IPO market,” said Joe Wan. “With Pamela’s addition to the team, we are positioned to deepen our relationships with listed clients and to further expand our commercial services. Pamela provides unique expertise in IPO services which will enable us to further tailor our best-in-class offering to both advisors in the legal and investment banking community and listed companies.”
The fresh Hong Kong appointments extend a busy recruitment period for the firm in key positions across its wider Asian footprint. In addition to Chloe Chan joining as Group M&A Director, and the appointment of Joe Wan himself as Hong Kong deputy, the firm has in recent months welcomed former Pasona president and one-time EY manager Scott Sato as CEO of Tricor Japan, and former Genpact vice president of APAC client relations Hailiang Zhang to the deputy CEO role for Mainland China.
