Oliver Wyman appoints Jasper Yip as Head of Greater China business
Global strategy and management consulting firm Oliver Wyman has appointed Jasper Yip as Head of Greater China.
Yip is based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, where he was among the first hires. Since then, he has played a key role in the growth of both the Hong Kong office and the firm’s wider Greater China business, particularly within the financial services sector. Alongside his regional leadership role, he also leads the Corporate and Institutional Banking practice of Oliver Wyman in Asia Pacific.
Yip specialises in capital markets, wealth and asset management, and fintech. In recent years, he has advised a range of global financial institutions on their China onshore strategies and operational plans, while also supporting asset managers in identifying growth opportunities in the Chinese market.
He has co-authored several Oliver Wyman industry reports and whitepapers focused on the financial services sector.
“The Asia-Pacific banking sector is rapidly evolving, marked by simultaneous globalization and regionalization. Corporate and institutional banks should reconsider their business models, embrace cutting-edge technologies, and focus on the growing sectors and markets to win in the changing dynamics,” said Yip.
In his new role, Yip leads the Greater China business, overseeing strategic direction, client relationships, and team development across Hong Kong, mainland China, and the broader regional corridors.
Reflecting on his appointment, Yip said: “When I joined Oliver Wyman in 2013, someone told me: ‘We hired all of you to be future partners and leaders.’ I remember nodding, but honestly, it felt like a distant dream. A bit surreal then, and a bit surreal now that it has come true. I’m delighted to step into my new role as Head of Greater China.”
In a widely celebrated post on LinkedIn, Yip took the time to thank his mentors, writing: “Your generosity shaped my career, and I hope to pay that forward.” He also expressed gratitude to clients – “You let me learn alongside you on some of the biggest mergers, restructurings, and transformations. That trust has been the foundation of everything I have been able to do” – as well as to those closest to him, including his family.
Looking ahead, he said: “What excites me most about this new role as Head of Greater China is the opportunity to give back – to create the same chances for others, to bring work that truly matters, and to keep this place genuine.”
Jasper Yip holds a bachelor’s degree in BBA (Global Business and Finance) from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and is a certified Financial Risk Manager.
The appointment comes shortly after Oliver Wyman’s move to One Taikoo Place, where the team now works together with colleagues from Marsh under one roof. “I see this as a real opportunity to drive more collaboration and deliver end-to-end solutions for our clients – combining strategy, risk, and talent in ways that few firms can,” said Yip.
