Australian-origin engineering consultancy GHD has effective today appointed Van Tang as its new CEO for Asia Pacific.
In her new role, Van Tang will lead the company’s operations in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji, comprising more than 5,600 people.
Founded in Melbourne in 1928, GHD is a global engineering and professional services company dedicated to projects in the built environment, with a focus on the infrastructure, transport, water and energy sectors. The APAC business unit is GHD’s largest, housing over half of the group’s 11,000-strong company-wide headcount.
Tang has over 25 years of experience in consulting and business. At GHD, she has held a variety of roles, most recently serving as Executive General Manager of New Zealand. Other roles in her GHD career have included General Manager of the company’s South Australia and New Zealand regions, as well as leadership roles on major transport and defence projects.
“I’m privileged and honoured to serve our clients and people in this new capacity as the CEO for Asia Pacific. I am inspired everyday by the culturally diverse, technically sophisticated and resilient people of GHD, and the skills and creativity we bring to our clients’ challenges,” said Tang, who is based in Adelaide.
An advocate for diversity and inclusion in engineering and other technical professions, Van arrived in Australia in the early 1980s with her family as a refugee from Vietnam. She completed a combined civil engineering and arts degree at the University of Adelaide.
