Ng Yi Wayn new leader of Oon & Bazul’s M&A practice
Singapore-based law firm Oon & Bazul has promoted Ng Yi Wayn to Head of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice.
The Mergers & Acquisitions practice of the award-winning law firm provides legal expertise on the full spectrum of transactions, from the initial structuring and strategising stages to due diligence, documentation and negotiations, and attending to completion as well as post-completion matters.
The practice works for start-ups, corporates as well as financial investors across sectors, and typically operates in tandem with other dealmakers including investment bankers, corporate finance advisors, transaction support consultants and financial and tax experts.
Yi Wayn brings extensive deals experience to the role, having served global and regional clients in various industries, including the technology, media and communications, education and healthcare sectors. Her track record includes advising clients on cross-border acquisitions and disposals, investments, restructurings and equity capital market transactions in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Her elevation to practice leader comes within a year of her joining the legal consultancy. Yi Wayn joined Oon & Bazul as a partner in September last year from rival RHTLaw Asia, and has since “done exceedingly well in executing her duties,” siad Bazul Ashhab, Managing Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at Oon & Bazul.
Notable cases she worked on since joining the firm include: advising a technology service provider on the acquisition of an international consultancy firm focused, and advising Fishawack Health (a leading life science commercialisation partner) in its acquisition of PRMA Consulting (a global market access and health economics outcomes research consultancy).
Commenting on her promotion, Yi Wayn took to LinkedIn to state: “I am deeply honoured and humbled with the appointment. This was possible only with the support and faith from the firm, my team, and our clients, and I thank everyone for the confidence that they have placed in me. I look forward to leading the practice in ensuring that our clients receive the best possible advice and outcomes in their transactions.”
According to a recent report by the Financial Times (based on Refinitiv data), the global M&A market is on course for one of its best years in history, with total transaction value well underway to break through the magical barrier of $4,000 billion by the end of 2021. The all-time record for deal value dates from 2007, when $4,300 billion worth of deals were closed.
