The 2019 Tech in Asia conference has wrapped up in Jakarta with senior MBB digital leaders Hanno Stegmann and Florian Hoppe appearing on the bill.

While a smaller cousin to this week’s GITEX event in Dubai, the 2019 Tech in Asia conference in Jakarta was estimated to have drawn 6,000 attendees over its two days – including experts, investors, and start-ups – for a showcase of the latest developments in the regional tech scene. Events includes roundtables, pitch battles, investor speed-dating and a packed schedule of speakers, including senior MBB digital consultants Hanno Stegmann and Florian Hoppe

Hanno Stegmann

A partner & director at BCG Digital Ventures, Boston Consulting Group’s 2014-founded corporate venturing wing, Hanno Stegmann serves as a member of the leadership team at BCGDV’s Southeast Asia Incubation Center. Prior to joining BCG for a second stint last year, Stegmann was the CEO of Asia Pacific Internet Group (APACIG), a Rocket Internet and Ooredoo joint venture. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly six years with BCG as a strategy consultant.

For the Tech in Asia Conference, Stegmann, who holds an MBA from INSEAD and has managed a large portfolio of start-ups in various regional markets, delivered a keynote on corporate venturing and how it works, as well as providing a roundup of the current corporate ventures landscape in Southeast Asia and the future development and impact of corporate innovation and investment for the local tech ecosystem.

Florian Hoppe

Also based out of Singapore, Bain & Company partner Florian Hoppe is a senior member of the firm’s Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) division and co-leads Bain’s digital practice for the Asia-Pacific. Hoppe has altogether more than 15 years of management consulting experience across the US and Asia Pacific region, joining Bain in 2003 following an MBA with the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business.

A specialist in digital strategy and transformation, innovation strategy, customer growth, and organisational challenges, Hoppe featured at the Temasek x Google Private Luncheon during the first day of the conference to discuss insights from the newly released Bain, Temasek and Google ‘e-Conomy SEA 2019’ joint-report – which found that the region’s internet economy has now breached the $100 billion barrier, with projections it will triple again by 2025.

Hoppe was joined by Google Indonesia Managing Director Randy Jusuf, who earlier in his career spent close to five years between the US and Jakarta offices of McKinsey & Company, along with Rohit Sipahimalani, Head of the Portfolio Strategy & Risk Group Temasek – who likewise spent an earlier career stint with McKinsey in India. Deloitte Consulting and Ernst & Young are also registered as attendees at the Tech in Asia conference, which will wrap up today.
