Alvarez & Marsal launches Restructuring practice in South Korea
Alvarez & Marsal has launched its Restructuring practice in South Korea, expanding its service offering in the local market.
The launch builds on Alvarez & Marsal’s decade-long presence in Korea, during which the management consulting firm has grown its headcount to more than 100 professionals. The firm operates out of Seoul.
The new practice will support clients with services including operational turnaround, financial restructuring, value preservation, working capital management, and corporate finance solutions. The Restructuring team will also work closely with other practices to deliver integrated offerings, such as distressed M&A and debt advisory.
“At Alvarez & Marsal, we step into complex situations, take responsibility, and execute. Bringing that model to Korea is an important milestone for us,” said Bryan Marsal, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Alvarez & Marsal.
James Dubow, Managing Director and Head of North Asia, added: “Across Asia-Pacific, we are seeing increasing demand for senior-led, execution-focused restructuring solutions. We believe our new practice in South Korea can become a meaningful contributor to the continued development of the country’s restructuring ecosystem and to our regional growth.”
The wing is led by two experienced practitioners: JJ Lim, Managing Director and Head of Restructuring; and Dee Chung, Managing Director and Deputy Head of Restructuring.
Lim brings more than three decades of experience from the Korea Development Bank, where he led complex restructurings and creditor workouts across key industries. Chung is a long-standing Alvarez & Marsal member with extensive experience advising on multi-jurisdictional turnarounds and special situations.
“Over the past decade, we have supported global clients on complex cross-border restructurings and turnaround situations,” Chung said. “Establishing a dedicated Restructuring practice in Korea allows us to deepen that work and bring more of Alvarez & Marsal’s distinctive strengths to Korean corporates and market participants.”
Globally, Alvarez & Marsal has more than 10,000 professionals, with approximately 2,200 based across its Asia-Pacific offices.
