Uzbekistan hands water infrastructure consulting project to Korean company

The government of Uzbekistan, in close collaboration with the World Bank, has awarded a consulting project to Korea Water Resources Corporation.

Valued at $400,000, the project aims to strengthen Uzbekistan’s national water and sewerage corporation, Uzsuvtaminot, through a series of development initiatives. Beginning in September and spanning 17 months, Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) will provide advisory services, training and mentoring programmes for young professionals, and support the local expansion of domestic private companies.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has been actively expanding its water infrastructure, with several projects funded by the World Bank.

K-water has been involved since the early stages of this initiative in 2022, when it developed a ‘Basic Plan for Establishing a Water Education Institution in Uzbekistan’ and delivered local expert training programmes.

“This project marks a turning point where K-water’s water management expertise is shared with Uzbekistan. It is significant in that we are exporting our knowledge and capabilities beyond products and infrastructure construction,” said Ko Young-gong, Head of K-water’s Human Resources Development Institute.

K-water also plans to use this project as a platform to expand its consulting services to other Central Asian countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.
