Alvarez & Marsal launches its Tax division in the Indonesian market

Global consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal has launched its Tax division, Alvarez & Marsal Tax, in the Indonesian market.

Alvarez & Marsal has been active in Indonesia for years, advising its clients on topics including restructuring & turnaround, performance improvement, management consulting, financial due diligence, and debt advisory. To accommodate its growth in the country, in April this year the consulting firm opened the doors to its new 60-seater office in Jakarta.

The new Tax practice now extends its service lines in the country. Led by Jaap Zwaan, who recently joined Alvarez & Marsal from KPMG where he was a partner, the arm will provide tax advisory services across a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, renewables, fintech, healthcare, life sciences, logistics, manufacturing, real estate, and telecommunications.

The team will support clients with optimizing cross-border tax efficiency, ensuring compliance with OECD-aligned documentation requirements, and leveraging Indonesia’s extensive network of double tax avoidance agreements (DTAs). They will also support with end-to-end support on deal structuring, buy- and sell-side tax due diligence, and post-deal integration, as well as tax audits and disputes assistance.

“The broadening of our APAC footprint with the addition of an Indonesia practice furthers our commitment to serve the region and offer our clients worldwide advisory services,” said Ernesto Perez, Managing Director and Global Head of Alvarez & Marsal Tax.

“Jaap’s extensive experience and deep knowledge of international tax and M&A tax will be instrumental in providing our clients with exceptional service and strategic advice in the Indonesian market,” said James Badenach, Managing Director and Head of Alvarez & Marsal Tax for APAC (excluding Australia).

Jakarta is one of Alvarez & Marsal’s 10 offices in Asia. Globally, the firm has over 10,000 employees in 40 countries around the world.
