GOPA Consulting Group, an international consulting firm dedicated to economic and social development, has launched a new office in Uzbekistan.

The firm’s new hub in Tashkent, its second in Central Asia alongside Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), will help GOPA Consulting Group advance its mission to help government and private sector organisations in the country. The Germany-headquartered group has over the past decade delivered over 30+ projects in the nation, in particular in the agriculture and food sector, and is now aiming to ramp up its footprint with a dedicated on the ground team.

“Our new office will play a key role in advancing ‘Uzbekistan's New Development Strategy 2030’, concentrating on areas such as energy efficiency, sustainable urban development, transportation, telecommunications, agribusiness, and the green economy,” said Thomas Franke, the COO of GOPA Consulting Group.

The new office is led by Rakhilya Nurbaeva, who has been appointed Managing Director of the Uzbek firm. She previously worked for Landell Mills, a UK-headquartered development consultancy with a strong focus on the agriculture sector, and for Ecorys, a Netherlands-headquartered economics consultancy firm.

At a special opening ceremony, Nurbaeva expressed her pride in the establishment of the Tashkent office, highlighting its mission to leverage the vast opportunities in Uzbekistan. These opportunities include the potential for expanding the services sector and managing the rapid population growth to bolster social services and infrastructure. “By focusing on quality job creation and sustainable resource management, Uzbekistan is poised for a resilient and prosperous future.”

Johannes Buschmeier, a Managing Director at GOPA Consulting Group subsidiary GOPA AFC, said: “As we embark on this transformative journey in Uzbekistan, we understand that building partnerships is key to empowering communities and fostering lasting opportunities. By aligning our global expertise with local insights, GOPA Consulting Group is dedicated to addressing challenges and advancing sustainable development in the region.”
