Government of Indonesia selects PwC to oversee transport project in Bandung
The government of Indonesia has selected PwC as its partner for the delivery of a major transport project in Bandung, the capital of Indonesia’s West Java province.
For nearly two decades, Bandung City has been facing heavy traffic congestion, and similarly, several other parts of the Greater Bandung metropolitan area, such as Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, and Cimahi City, also face issues with road traffic.
To help improve the situation, the Indonesian government recently revived a long-standing (but never implemented) plan to expand and reinvigorate the infrastructure in the metropolitan area. Named a ‘National Strategic Project’ by policy makers, the Bandung Intra Urban Toll Road (BIUTR) project aims to play a crucial role in enhancing road capacity and connectivity, thereby reducing travel times and supporting local economic growth by improving logistical routes.
The BIUTR Project will focus on most parts of the road network, in particular on the east-west arterials of Bandung City.
The West Java government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), is actively advancing BIUTR, with support from the National Asset Management Agency for land acquisition. Such acquisition has historically posed significant delays in similar projects.
The BIUTR Project will be delivered through a public-private partnership model, wherein the government will partner with private entities to expedite construction and manage operational costs.
Big Four firm PwC has been appointed to oversee the setup and operationalisation of the public-private partnership, with the consultants currently working on the preparation and tender phase. PwC will soon by flanked by an engineering consulting firm, which will support PwC on the technical, environmental and social aspects of the project.
The BIUTR Project is in part financially backed by the Government of Australia, which is supporting sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Indonesia through enhanced access to infrastructure for all citizens.
