Singapore Airlines adopts AI solution from KLM-BCG partnership
Singapore Airlines has announced that it will adopt Pathfinder, an AI-tool jointly developed by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), to improve its management of aircraft management.
Since the inception of their partnership six years ago, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (107 aircraft) and Boston Consulting Group (a strategy consulting firm) have been working together on developing methodologies and AI-tools that help improve digital airline operations. Initially focused on KLM’s own operations, the partnership later on evolved to also serve other airlines.
Now joining the likes of Gol, Delta Air Lines, Virgin Atlantic and others is Singapore Airlines, Asia’s 10th largest airline by passengers carried (around 35 million in 2023) but also Asia’s top airline in terms of customer satisfaction (according to Skytrax).
More specifically, Singapore Airlines will adopt Pathfinder, a solution that optimizes aircraft assignments to routes based on artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. According to its innovators KLM and BCG, the solution has a proven track record of strengthening operational resilience, improving on-time performance, and enhancing the efficiency of aircraft.
Tan Wei Qi, Divisional Vice President Operations Control at Singapore Airlines, said: “Pathfinder facilitates quicker data-driven decisions for Singapore Airlines, enabling us to optimize our operations, realize sustainability benefits from reduced fuel burn, and reduce flight disruptions as part of our commitment to providing a world-class experience to all our customers.”
Commenting on the collaboration, Maarten Stienen (Chief Operations Officer of KLM) and Dirk-Maarten Molenaar (Managing Director and Senior Partner at BCG), said: “Over the last six years, the KLM-BCG partnership has established itself as the leading player in digital airline operations with unparalleled offerings in the market. We’re delighted to partner with Singapore Airlines and look forward to support their digital transformation in operations.”
This summer, KLM and BCG extended their partnership for another three years.
