Alvarez & Marsal names Douglas Jackson Head of Vietnam business
Alvarez & Marsal has appointed Douglas Jackson as Managing Director and Country Head of its Vietnam business.
Douglas Jackson arrives with more than 30 years of experience at the global consultancy firm, and has been tasked with leading Alvarez & Marsal’s growth ambition in Vietnam.
The US-headquartered company formally launched its Vietnam presence last year with an office in Ho Chi Minh City. The office has since hit the ground running, focusing on projects in supply chain, operations improvement, and value enhancement for private equity funds.
Now office leader Jackson specialises in helping leadership in the private and public sectors with topics including business model innovation, corporate strategy, pricing, risk management, corporate governance, and partnering in ecosystems.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Jackson was Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group, where he among others founded the firm’s practice in Vietnam in 2013. Before that, he worked at Kearney, including as Country Manager for its Thailand business.
Notable assignments of Jackson during his time in consulting include leading a multidisciplinary team to identify ~$1 billion in cost-out initiatives at a global bank; defining the retail strategy and piloting target operating model changes at a top-three Vietnamese bank; and improving salesforce productivity by over 30% by implementing new sales approach and sales tools at a top-three Vietnamese FMCG company.
Jackson has also held senior leadership positions in industry as Executive Deputy General Director at Vietnam International Bank in Vietnam and as Managing Director and Head of Group Strategy at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. He began his career at Bank of Montreal in Taipei, Taiwan.
In Vietnam, Jackson advised then-Party Secretary of Quang Ninh Province, now Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, on a strategy to sustainably develop tourism in Halong Bay, and with master plan to develop future talent pipelines necessary to improve competitiveness and the inflow of foreign direct investment.
“We are delighted to welcome Douglas to our team and look forward to his leadership expanding our presence in Vietnam,” said Utsav Garg, who leads Alvarez & Marsal’s combined Southeast Asia and Australia division.
Luis De Lucio, Managing Director and Head of Alvarez & Marsal’s Growth Markets practice, said: “As our clients seek to expand their operations and footprint into Southeast Asia, we continue to expand in the Southeast Asia and Australia region. Our proposition of tangible results is being met with an overwhelming response from our clients, and the local market needs align with Alvarez & Marsal’s results-oriented mindset and commitment to driving change.”
