Oliver Wyman launches actuarial practice in Asia Pacific
Global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman has launched its Actuarial practice in Asia Pacific.
Headquartered out of the United States, Oliver Wyman’s Actuarial practice helps clients in the insurance (life, property, casualty) and healthcare sectors with gaining insight in their risks, the potential financial impacts of these risks, and how they can mitigate and insure themselves against uncertain future events.
“We’re proud of our continued growth and consistent, high-quality service to our clients, and we see Asia Pacific as an important opportunity to serve our expanding client base,” said David Weinsier, a leader in Oliver Wyman’s Actuarial practice.
Operating out of Hong Kong, the new wing will offer its services to Oliver Wyman’s existing clients in the Asia Pacific region (the firm has 10 offices across the region), as well as local subsidies of global clients of the Actuarial practice.
Leading the venture is the Dutchman Marco Warmelink, who has more than 25 years of experience in the life insurance industry, with over 18 years in the Asia Pacific market. Before joining Oliver Wyman last year, Warmelink was a partner at KPMG in the its actuarial team focused on Hong Kong and China.
Prior to working at the Big Four firm, Warmelink was a director at WTW, where he was a member of the Risk Management Practice, and held several senior roles at ING, including Chief Risk Officer for its insurance and pensions business in Hong Kong and Macau.
“I have been active in the life insurance industry since 1996, specialized in actuarial and insurance risk management, and in Asia since 1999. I have worked with clients across Asia, from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan to South Korea,” said Warmelink.
On his new role at Oliver Wyman, Warmelink said: “Our Asia Pacific team members work seamlessly together with the firm’s global Actuarial practice and Marsh McLennan as one team. This allows us to quickly respond to client needs and provide high-quality advice.”
Marco Warmelink holds a master’s degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Amsterdam. He is a Member of both the Dutch Actuarial Society and the Hong Kong Actuarial Society.
In 2022, Oliver Wyman’s Actuarial practice expanded into Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory and a leading global offshore financial centre.
