Sebastien Lamy joins Kiki Yang at helm of APAC private equity practice
Bain & Company, one of the world’s top strategy consulting firms, has promoted Tokyo-based partner Sebastien Lamy to co-head of its Private Equity practice in Asia Pacific.
An 18-year company member of Bain & Company, Lamy has in recent years played a large role in the growth of Bain & Company’s Private Equity practice in Japan and Southeast Asia.
Now at the helm of the practice alongside Hong Kong-based Kiki Yang, Lamy is responsible for implementing the strategy of Bain’s Private Equity practice in the region, business and client development as well as practice development.
Lamy initially joined Bain & Company in 2002 in its Paris office. Three years on, the Frenchman relocated to Singapore – and has remained based in Asia ever since. Lamy moved to Tokyo in 2020, and most recently was leader of the Infrastructure Investing practice across Asia Pacific.
“Sebastien has been a key driver of our growth in the private equity landscape,” said Satish Shankar, Bain & Company’s Asia Pacific regional managing partner. “I am excited at his appointment and look forward to his continued contribution as part of our leadership team in the region.”
Lamy specialises in growth and portfolio strategy, fund strategy, M&A advisory, commercial due diligence, and innovation. In between his two spells at Bain & Company, he was managing director of Singapore-based Keppel Corporation, where he led group strategy, M&A, technology and innovation.
“The scale and complexity of our Private Equity practice calls for a seasoned and well-respected leader such as Sebastien. I am confident that Sebastien and Kiki will continue to bring the most-cutting edge best-of-Bain capabilities to our clients in Asia Pacific,” said Rebecca Burack, global head of Bain’s Private Equity practice.
Lamy succeeds Andrew Tymms, a Melbourne-based senior partner who has taken a step back to serve as a part-time senior advisor after close to three decades at the firm between the United Kingdom, Australia and Asia. During his term as co-leader of the Private Equity practice, he helped the unit quadruple its revenue.
Sebastien Lamy holds an MBA from INSEAD and an undergraduate degree from the HEC School of Management.
