Hot on the heels of new office launches in India and Saudi Arabia, Ankura has over the summer period established an office in Shanghai – its second in Greater China.

Ankura is a global consulting firm with more than 1,700 professionals worldwide. With Asia Pacific one of the firm’s key growth areas for the coming years, the US-headquartered group is ramping up existing teams and its geographic footprint in the region.

The expansion into Shanghai establishes Ankura’s presence in mainland China (alongside its Hong Kong office), and brings the total number of offices in Asia Pacific to eight (three of which are in Australia).

“We are pleased to further our global expansion with another office opening in the Asia-Pacific region, a key pillar of Ankura’s growth strategy. There is significant demand in Shanghai for our strong local presence and Ankura is well-equipped to bring our collaborative culture, unique approach, and robust capabilities to the domestic market,” said Kevin Lavin, Chief Executive Officer at Ankura.

Ankura’s service offerings in Shanghai will mirror the firm’s wider portfolio – with support from other offices. “Our teams deliver support for market entry strategies, international joint ventures, data and forensic technology, disputes, turnaround, and issues related to major capital and infrastructure projects,” said Simon Michaels, Chairman for EMEA and APAC at Ankura.

Leading the new office is Han Lai, appointed as Senior Managing Director. He has more than two decades of cybersecurity and digital forensic investigation experience, gained mainly in professional services. Lai previously served FTI Consulting, Kroll and PwC across mainland China, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.
