Alvarez & Marsal launches new offices in Malaysia and Vietnam
Global consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal has beefed up its presence in Asia Pacific with the launch of new offices in Malaysia and Vietnam.
The entry into the two markets builds on Alvarez & Marsal’s ambitious growth strategy for the region. In June, South East Asia and Australia leader Utsav Garg unveiled that the firm is working towards “its next growth chapter” in the region.
To fuel the ambitions, the US-headquartered consultancy not much later brought its Singapore, Indonesia and Australia offices together under one roof. “We’re seeing growing demand from both private equity and corporates. Our South East Asia and Australia business unit demonstrates our commitment to and investment in expanding our footprint.”
Since then, developments have accelerated with the opening of new offices in Kuala Lumpur (in July) and Ho Chi Minh City (in September).
In Malaysia, Alvarez & Marsal has meanwhile built a team of around 20 professionals, led by managing director and country leader, Tze Yann Tan.
Tan joined the firm externally from SC Johnson, where he most recently served as Senior Director and Head of Supply Chain for Asia-Pacific. Before that, he served as SC Johnson’s Director for Greater China Supply Chain and China Manufacturing Operations. He also spent eight years with strategy consultancy McKinsey & Company.
In Vietnam, Alvarez & Marsal has installed senior director Nidhi Thubanakere as its leader. He joined from PwC, where he spent thirteen years, most recently as Deputy General Director of the firm’s Consulting practice in Vietnam. Before that, he served as a lead Engineer for Aetna systems and worked on notable aerospace and railways programs like the Airbus A380, London Underground and Spanish Railway's Cordoba-Malaga line.
Thubanakere has been tasked with growing the local office, and will initially focus on supply chain and operations improvement work in sectors including industrials, consumer, retail, technology and private equity.
Commenting on the milestones, Luis De Lucio, Managing Director and Head of Alvarez & Marsal’s Growth Markets practice, said: “As our clients seek to expand their operations and footprint into Southeast Asia, we continue to expand here in the region. Our proposition of tangible results is being met with an overwhelming response from our clients, and the local market needs align with Alvarez & Marsal’s results-oriented mindset and commitment to driving change.”
Privately held since its founding in 1983, Alvarez & Marsal currently has over 6,000 people across five continents.
