Accenture wins data analytics project at Chubu Electric Power
Chubu Electric Power has selected Accenture to help its subsidiary Tsunagu with maturing its data analytics capabilities.
Founded in 1951, Chubu Electric Power is an electric utilities provider for the middle Chūbu region of the Honshu island of Japan. The company is Japan’s third largest electric utilities in terms of power generation capacity and annual revenue.
In a bid to advance its data-driven decision making, the Nagoya based company is beefing up its competencies in the area of data analytics. Leveraging insights from ‘big data’, Chubu Electric Power plans to improve several aspects of its operations, from areas such as customer acquisition and support, all the way through to operations, energy supply chain and power distribution.
“Chubu Electric Power aims to provide new value to its customers by ‘connecting people to people and people to society’ – as we say in our slogan – through the power of data analytics,” said Hidetomo Noda, executive officer, deputy director-general of the Business Development Division at Chubu Electric Power.
This data analytics journey is led by Tsunagu Community Analytics, a joint venture between Chubu Electric Power (70% ownership), Chuden CTI (20%), Chubu Electric Power Grid (5%), and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz (5%). The new data analytics company began formal operations on April 1st, 2021.
Noda continued: “Tsunagu Community Analytics uses data to improve the quality of life for individuals and develops new businesses that connect multiple social infrastructures.”
“In collaboration with Accenture, we will accelerate our efforts to identify new business needs and solve social issues in Chubu as a comprehensive energy group that supports safe, secure, and affluent lifestyles, fully utilising Accenture’s extensive digital capabilities.”
The partnership will see Accenture provide Tsunagu Community Analytics with data analytics expertise, enabling the company to gain better visibility into its day-to-day operations. The global technology and consulting firm will also provide Tsunagu’s employees with training to develop the skills needed to drive Chubu Electric Power’s digital transformation.”
In addition, Accenture will help Tsunagu form an ecosystem with other organisations – including local governments, educational institutions, and various infrastructure service providers in and around Japan’s central Chubu region – to promote data collaboration with the aim of improving the experiences of Chubu Electric Power’s energy customers.
Masafumi Takei, a managing director in Accenture’s Resources practice in Japan, said, “Tsunagu will help transform Chubu Electric Power Group’s operations with data-fueled insights, and also help Chubu Electric advance its goal of driving the adoption of digital capabilities in the community. This effort fits very well with Accenture’s delivery on the promise of technology and human ingenuity, helping clients create value that benefits all stakeholders.”
