Shinji Murakami leads Cognizant's 700-strong team in Japan

Global technology consulting firm Cognizant has named Shinji Murakami as its new Head of Japan.

In the top seat, Shinji Murakami leads a team of approximately 700 professionals in Japan serving more than 60 customers, including companies in the insurance, life sciences, telecommunications, technology and manufacturing sectors.

Cognizant first landed in Japan in 2008, and currently operates with offices in Tokyo and Osaka. The firm’s domestic wing specialises in digital strategy, technology transformation, product design and engineering, the internet of things, and enterprise mobility.

“Japan is one of the strategic markets where we have been significantly increasing our presence over the last few years,” said Ursula Morgenstern, President of Global Growth Markets at Cognizant. Murakami has now been tasked with “driving the next wave of growth for Cognizant in this important market”, and with “further enhancing our leading-edge advisory and delivery capabilities”. 

Murakami brings a wealth of experience to the challenge, with more than 30 years of experience leading managed services, mobile communications, business development and go-to-market strategies in the IT industry under his belt. 

Prior to joining Cognizant, he worked for Microsoft, where he was the Managing Executive Officer of the company’s Enterprise Group. In this role, he led the sales team focused on engaging the C-suite across verticals, helping clients drive digital transformation. Prior to Microsoft, Murakami spent 12 years at Hewlett Packard, where he was General Manager of Enterprise Services for Japan. He has also held senior leadership roles at Softbank Telecom, IBM and DXC Technology.
