Berkeley Research Group has added two senior hires to its Disputes and International Arbitration team in the Asia Pacific: Terence Mark and Keming Liang
Citing a growing market together with the need for local knowledge and native-language skills, international advisory Berkeley Research Group (BRG) has added two senior professionals to its Disputes and International Arbitration practice in the Asia Pacific. Terence Mark, who will be based out of Tokyo, joins the consultancy as a managing director, while new BRG director will split his time between the firm’s Beijing and Los Angeles offices.
“Over the past year, we have seen increasing demand for our services in the APAC region, including in areas such as financial services and M&A/private equity disputes,” said BRG APAC co-head Mustafa Hadi, who also leads the regional Disputes and International Arbitration practice. “Terence and Keming’s profiles align directly with our strategic focus areas in Asia, and we are delighted to welcome them to our rapidly expanding team.”
Terence Mark
Mark joins BRG with a near four decade background in banking and financial services in the US and Asia, with almost half of that time spent out of Japan. Over his career, Mark has developed deep expertise and experience in credit, securities, loans, derivatives, interest rate/FX, structured products, portfolio management and NPLs/workouts, with knowledge of corporate and structured credit, aviation finance, asset-backed securities, real estate and film finance.
Commenting on his new role, Mark stated; “I am excited to be able to contribute to such an experienced team and look forward to working closely with Mustafa and the rest of BRG’s APAC team to help drive the continued growth of our Asia Pacific Disputes and International Arbitration practice."
Keming Liang
Meanwhile, Liang joins BRG’s Los Angeles and Beijing offices, with the new director and native Mandarin speaker to work closely with the firm’s regional Hong Kong headquarters and Singapore outlet. Like Mark, Liang will sit within the firm’s Economics & Damages wing, and brings a range of expertise, including business, tangible assets and IP valuation, the assessment of damages, financial statement and solvency analysis, and transfer pricing.
Liang’s work has covered a range of industries including the energy, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, financial services, technology, consumer products, and entertainment and media sectors, where he has gained extensive experience in addressing economic and financial issues in commercial disputes arising from M&A, bankruptcy, shareholder appraisal right, taxes, patent infringement, lost profits, breach of contract and of fiduciary duties.
A particular specialist of the Greater China market, Liang joins after nearly eight years with economics consultancy Compass Lexecon, where he most recently served as Vice President. Liang stated; “With six offices across the APAC region and the ability to assemble broader teams with deep industry and technical expertise from its global offices, BRG is uniquely placed to help clients solve their most complex and challenging issues.”
