Risk advisory Kroll has bolstered its incident response capabilities in the Asia Pacific with the purchase of Singapore-based cyber-security firm RP Digital Security.

Singapore-headquartered cyber firm RP Digital Security, a regional leader in computer forensic investigations, digital security and eDiscovery, has been acquired by global counterpart Kroll – a division of Duff & Phelps. The pick-up will see RP Digital’s team, including founder Rob Phillips, cross to Kroll’s Asia Pacific Cyber Risk practice, strengthening the latter’s cyber risk capabilities across the region.

“Kroll’s global reach and comprehensive cyber risk management capabilities are unparalleled, and I am excited to expand on those capabilities with our own,” said Phillips, now an associate managing director. “As organisations throughout APAC see increased exposure to cyber threats while facing stricter legal requirements around data protection, it is important for companies to have a robust system in place.”

Established in 2004, RP Digital serves some of the largest regional law firms, financial institutions and insurance providers from locations in Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia, offering deep cyber investigation expertise including in data breach, ransomware, business email compromise and internal employee investigations. The company also provides remediation and recovery guidance.

“I am thrilled to welcome the RP Digital Security team to the Cyber Risk practice,” said Kroll’s global practice leader Jason Smolanoff. “RP Digital Security has a strong reputation for high quality forensics and incident response, helping clients in the region effectively manage the entire incident’s lifecycle, and will now greatly benefit from Kroll’s extensive proactive cyber resilience services.”

Smolanoff also noted the reported uptick in reported cyber-crime in the Asia Pacific region – with a study from management consultancy Oliver Wyman finding that businesses in the region were 80 percent more likely to suffer a cyber-breach. “It’s important for organisations to build resiliency against attacks, including a robust incident response plan and preparedness, ahead of a breach,” Smolanoff warned.

According to Kroll, the purchase of RP Digital aligns with its commitment to providing clients with end-to-end cyber resiliency solutions, from detection and response to remediation, restoration and hardening. “The RP Digital Security team’s expertise, responsiveness and focus on client service are consistent with our values and helped solidify our relationship,” said Paul Jackson, APAC Cyber Risk leader.
