Two new consulting entities have launched in Singapore over the past week; off-shore law-firm Carey Olsen with a litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice, and Vista Consulting Group, the dedicated consulting arm of investment firm Vista Equity Partners.

Full-service offshore law firm Carey Olsen – which specialises in Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey law – has launched a litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice in Singapore, to be headed by experienced recruit James Noble. Vista Consulting Group – the consulting arm of US technology investor Vista Equity Partners, has launched a new office in Singapore to provide services to portfolio companies.

Carey Olsen

Spread across nine international offices with a headcount in excess of 230 lawyers, Carey Olsen works in the area of banking and finance, corporate and M&A, private equity, trusts, dispute resolution, insolvency and property law among other areas, and bills itself as the only on-the-ground offshore law firm in Asia with the capability to advise on its regions of focus. The latest launch, the firm says, marks the next step in its rapidly growing Asia presence.

Initially established in Singapore 2015, with a Hong Kong office added the following year, in recent months Carey Olsen has expanded its Asia capacity with a corporate practice launched in in Hong Kong and Bermuda expertise brought in through the relocation of personnel. A two-decade veteran in complex and high value shareholder litigation, asset recovery, cross-border enforcement and insolvency, the recruitment of Noble further bolsters its team.

“James has a strong reputation in the offshore and Asian legal markets, which makes him the ideal individual to lead our litigation, insolvency and restructuring offering in Asia,” said Carey Olsen group managing partner Alex Ohlsson. “The addition of new legal service offerings in both Singapore and Hong Kong in recent months has been due to significant client demand and we look forward to continued growth and expansion in the region.”

Noble crosses from a Singapore managing partner role at fellow offshore firm Harneys, where he spent the past nine years; “I am thrilled to be joining Carey Olsen, particularly at such an exciting time for the firm in Asia as it continues to expand its presence in both Singapore and Hong Kong. Carey Olsen has quickly earned itself a reputation as an ambitious, dynamic and well-respected offshore law firm, and one which I'm delighted to be a part of.”

Vista Consulting Group

Singapore has meanwhile welcomed another new advisory; Vista Consulting Group (VCG, which serves as the dedicated consulting arm to portfolio companies of US technology investment firm Vista Equity Partners. The new office will act as the Asia headquarters for VCG, providing additional operational support for the 20 Vista portfolio companies with offices in the region – including 13 in Singapore – and their almost 14,000 local employees.

“We are seeing immense growth of the business-to-business market in Asia, underpinned by an acceleration of investment in technology infrastructure and enterprise software. This transformation continues to create a significant commercial opportunity across our portfolio,” said Vista’s billionaire founder and CEO Robert F. Smith, who last year brought in long-term Bain & Company partner Read Simmons as the President of VCG.

Simmons now oversees a team of approximately 200 consultants, with Singapore VCG’s first international office. Smith continued; “An on-the-ground presence in Singapore builds upon our extensive work in India and other parts of the region and will improve our ability to support the growth of our companies by further helping our network engage with customers, partners, entrepreneurs and technology talent to best position them and Vista for continued success.”
